Hearing Loss in Children<\/h2>\n

Roughly three out of 1,000 babies are born with hearing loss, and its prevalence is increasing in adolescents. With the advent of newborn hearing screenings, we can now identify congenital hearing loss within weeks of a child\u2019s birth. If the newborn hearing screening indicates your baby may have hearing loss, it\u2019s important to work with an audiologist to perform more comprehensive hearing tests. Delaying treatment can have a strong effect on a child\u2019s learning and development.<\/p>\n

Some main causes of hearing loss in children include congenital factors because of genetic issues, perinatal problems and premature birth; ear infections (otitis media) which can cause difficulty hearing; and in severe cases, may lead to permanent hearing loss, and acquired or progressive hearing loss.<\/p>\n
