Technology is an amazing thing! Hearing aids are get- ting smaller and smaller and sometimes our patients can hardly see them well enough to change the battery. I’m not sure if the small size is a feature or problem.
Our patients who have needed stronger hearing aids in the past have always been steered toward large behind the ear hearing aids with full earmolds in the ear. Some patients will need to stick with that style due to their needs but others have been switching to smaller behind the ear devices or even in the ear de- vices.
The receiver in the canal technology has allowed the behind the ear aids to get smaller while putting a speaker in the ear. People with mild to moderate loss
have a smaller speaker with an off the shelf dome while peo- ple who need power have a larger speaker encased in a custom shell.
Many manufacturers are mak- ing in the ear aids with stron- ger circuits so people whose hearing has decreased who want to stay with an in the ear style can do so and still hear much better.
If you’ve had your hearing aids for years and you aren’t hear- ing as well as you would like, please come in to talk with us and we can tell you what your options are.
